Nutella-Banana Muffins

How to Make the Best Nutella-Banana Muffins

These Nutella-banana muffins are the ultimate brunch indulgence that combines two beloved flavors in one irresistible package. The tender, moist crumb studded with fresh banana pairs perfectly with rich ribbons of Nutella swirled throughout each bite. Whether you’re hosting a special brunch or simply craving a homemade treat, these muffins deliver bakery-quality results from your own kitchen.

What makes these muffins truly special is the technique of starting them at a high temperature and then reducing the heat—this creates a golden, slightly crispy exterior while keeping the inside incredibly soft and fluffy. The Nutella swirl adds a luxurious chocolatey element that makes them feel fancy, yet the recipe is straightforward enough for any home baker to master. The combination of both butter and vegetable oil ensures maximum moisture, while the brown sugar adds depth and keeps them soft for days.

Perfect for weekend breakfasts, special occasions, or afternoon snacks, these muffins are guaranteed to disappear quickly. Serve them warm with a cup of coffee for the ultimate comfort experience, or pack them for an on-the-go breakfast that’s sure to impress.

Instructions

Preparation

  1. Heat oven to 425 degrees and place paper liners in a muffin tray. Set aside.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, stir together flour, dark brown sugar, cinnamon, salt, baking soda and baking powder until well combined. Some lumps will be unavoidable, but try to break up any big brown sugar lumps.

Mixing the Batter

  1. In a separate large mixing bowl, whisk together eggs, mashed bananas, whole milk, vegetable oil, melted butter and vanilla extract until combined.
  2. Pour the wet ingredients over the dry ingredients and fold just until combined. Do not overmix. Leaving some lumps is OK. The batter won't be perfectly smooth.

Baking

  1. Spoon the batter into baking liners so that they're ¾ full. Dollop about ½ tablespoon Nutella on top of each muffin. Using a toothpick or skewer, swirl the Nutella around the batter.
  2. Place the muffin pan in the 425-degree oven. Keeping the oven closed, immediately turn oven temperature to 350 degrees. Bake until a toothpick comes out clean on the muffin part, about 20 minutes.
  3. Remove from oven and place the baked muffins on a wire rack to cool. Enjoy!

Notes

  • For best results, use room temperature eggs and milk for easier mixing
  • Don't overmix the batter—lumps are okay and will result in fluffier muffins
  • Store cooled muffins in an airtight container for up to 3 days
