Spiced Bourbon Eggnog

How to Make the Best Spiced Bourbon Eggnog

There’s nothing quite like a silky smooth, indulgent eggnog to celebrate the holiday season. This spiced bourbon eggnog is pure holiday decadence—creamy, rich, and infused with warm spices and smooth bourbon that make it irresistible.

What makes this recipe special is the method of tempering the egg yolks with the warm cream mixture. By slowly incorporating the hot dairy into the beaten yolks, you create an incredibly smooth and luxurious texture without any graininess. The overnight refrigeration allows all those wonderful warm spices—cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves—to meld together perfectly, creating a eggnog that’s deeply flavorful and oh-so-satisfying.

The bourbon adds a sweet, subtle depth that’s perfect for sipping slowly by the fire. Whether you serve it with the optional whipped egg white topping for extra elegance or simply in a cozy mug with a sprinkle of nutmeg, this is the eggnog that will have your guests coming back for more all season long.

Instructions

Make the Eggnog

  1. Beat the egg yolks until they're smooth and slightly lightened in color. Set aside.
  2. In a small saucepan, bring milk, heavy cream, maple syrup, cinnamon sticks, vanilla extract, nutmeg, whole cloves and pinch of salt to a simmer over medium heat. Do not boil. After the mixture comes to a simmer, turn off the heat.
  3. Strain some of the cream mixture through a fine-mesh sieve into the egg yolks and whisk. Repeat this process several times until all of the milk mixture is incorporated. Stir in the bourbon.
  4. Cover and refrigerate overnight.

Serve

  1. For an optional frothy topping, whip the reserved egg whites until soft peaks form immediately before serving and use to top each glass.
  2. Sprinkle with ground cinnamon and nutmeg if desired. Enjoy!

Notes

  • The eggnog must refrigerate overnight for the best flavor and texture.
  • Freshly grated nutmeg will provide a more aromatic result than pre-ground.
  • Bourbon lovers will want to indulge in this eggnog all season long.
